Separating funnel

  • Liquids that do not mix together or have little or no mutual solubilityare called immiscible liquids. Water and hydrocarbon are examples of immiscible liquids.
  • They can be separated by separating funnel as shown below.
  • The two liquids form two layers and the bottom layer can be removed using the tap at the bottom of the funnel.
  • The liquid with greater density is found at the lower layer.
