Distillation

  • Distillation is used to separate the solvent from the solution.
  • The solution is heated and the solvent boils and evaporates.
  • The vaporised solvent passes through a water-cool condenser where it cools and condenses.
  • The condenser directs the condensed solvent into a container away from the original solution, collected as filtrate.
  • The solute is left behind as residue.
